A small attempt to refute entropy, and conserve the dance
People of the Place,
A little over a year ago I started a letter to Spider, as a brief introduction... but never finished it prior to Jeanne's transition. Then, last August, Gay Haldeman reminded me of Spider's own advice about dealing with grief, and the proper application of sympathy: "Shared pain is lessened; shared joy, increased—thus do we refute entropy."
A few days after she and I spoke, I started writing a story for Spider. A small attempt to refute entropy, by remembering that nothing good is ever truly gone.
"Absinthe Fish" is for Spider, and for Jeanne, and for all of you, with the small hope that it may somehow lessen pain, and increase joy.
— M. David Blake
"Absinthe Fish" is in Issue #5 of BULL SPEC: a magazine of speculative fiction: www.bullspec.com/issue/5.
