Callahanicon Austin - July 13-15, 2001
Austin info
ConCom info

This is the page where information and schedules for Callahanicon events will go. Which brings up a problem.

There's usually only a vague sort of list of things going on at some point on a given day, and maybe even the day's not completely certain. (Another big difference from your run-of-the-mill "X panel meets in Y room from A o'clock to B o'clock" con.)

And why is this, you ask? Well, you know that phrase, "like herding cats"?

Callahanians are worse, by a few factors of ten.

So, basically -- with one significant exception, about which more anon -- there usually isn't really a schedule schedule to this. Patrons propose things to do, those things get listed on the site, and, come the con, somebody suggests actually doing it, somebody else says, "Sure," yet another wants to stay with the general conversation, some folks are off doing something else semi-sort-of organized, other folk just wander downtown looking at things... You get the idea.

This year, however, I'm assured that times will be a bit firmer for most of the various activities (though -- with that aforementioned significant exception -- none of them are "we'll all be doing this" type things).

Anyway, here's the outline of what'll be happening:

Thursday, July 12:

People start arriving. Although the con doesn't technically start until the next day, the folks who arrive Thursday evening will more or less be doing what they'll be doing the whole con -- hanging out and doing stuff. (To use the technical terms.) There may be an excursion of some sort planned for this evening for those interested.
Friday, July 13:
The Con proper (or improper, as the case may be) begins. Patrons go places and do things, go other places and do other things, and/or just stay in the hotel lobby or con suite and chat. Heroic expeditions for food are launched, such that men (and women) may sing of. ("The Chocolate Song," perhaps?)
Saturday, July 14:
More of the same during the morning and afternoon. Then, in the evening, that significant exception I was talking about:

The Great Callahanian Cookout at the home of Kyla Myers, our Gracious Hostess, just north of Austin in Pflugerville. (Home of the Pflugerville Pflag newspaper. I kid you not.) Burgers and such will be grilled, all manner of delectable dishes will be provided by various folks (come to that, there may eventually be a signup list here for that), and if there are songs sung of the previous 48 hours' glorious expeditions, they'll probably be sung here. Various and sundry musical instruments are likely to appear.

Sunday, July 15:
People start leaving. Think Thursday, sort of in reverse. There'll probably still be at least a Heroic Food Expedition or two.
